Family-owned Charleston company seeking qualified Chief Operating Officer to join their team! The Chief Operating Officer runs day-to-day business: production, project management, editorial, design, and customer experience. The COO reports to the CEO and is a member of the executive team.
The COO will turn company strategy into repeatable processes, measurable results, and a team that delivers great products on time and on budget. This role suits a hands-on leader who is as comfortable fixing a workflow in Salesforce as presenting an operating plan to leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Operations and production
- Own the end-to-end production workflow.
- Set and hold turnaround targets for each stage and remove bottlenecks between teams.
- Manage all aspects of client relationships, including contracts, quality, and cost.
People and leadership
- Lead, coach, and grow the project management, design, and customer success teams.
- Build clear roles, workloads, and career paths so the team can scale with demand.
- Hire and develop managers who can run their areas independently.
Customer experience
- Make sure every client gets clear communication, accurate timelines, and product satisfaction.
- Track satisfaction, reviews, and complaints, and act on what they reveal.
- Own escalations and service recovery for at-risk projects.
Systems, data, and process
- Own our operating systems, including Salesforce, and how teams use them day to day.
- Define and report on operational KPIs: cycle time, on-time delivery, project volume per PM, revision rates, and margin per package.
- Lead adoption of automation and AI tools that improve speed and quality.
Financial performance
- Build and manage the operations budget with the CEO and finance.
- Improve gross margin through pricing input, vendor management, and staffing efficiency.
- Partner with sales and marketing so what we sell matches what we can deliver.
Qualifications
Required
- 10+ years of operations experience, with at least 5 in a senior leadership role (VP, Director of Operations, or COO).
- A record of scaling a service business with project-based delivery and many concurrent client engagements.
- Experience leading managers across several functions, with teams of 30 or more.
- Strong command of operating metrics, budgets, and P&L drivers.
- Hands-on experience with CRM and workflow tools; Salesforce strongly preferred.
- Clear, warm communication with staff, customers, and leadership.
Preferred
- Experience bringing AI and automation into creative or service workflows.
- Bachelor’s degree in business, operations, or a related field; MBA a plus.
